IRVING, Texas (AP) – Miles Austin practiced without his sticky gloves, forcing him to watch every pass into his hands more than usual.
Coach Wade Phillips hopes little things like that will salvage the season for the 1-6 Dallas Cowboys.
A back-to-basics approach is the latest plan the Cowboys are trying to turn around their season. Phillips said their practice Wednesday included more individual drills and there was a renewed emphasis on fundamentals and technique during film sessions.
For instance, offensive linemen weren’t just graded on whether they blocked their man but how.
Nothing seemed different during the portion of practice opened to reporters, except the location – Cowboys Stadium, because rain left the outdoor fields at team headquarters too wet. They weren’t even in full pads, wearing only helmet and shoulder pads.
