TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers can be called young, resilient, improving or even surprising. Just don’t forget to mention they’re also in first place, tied for the best record in the NFC.
Coach Raheem Morris reiterated Monday that he’s not backing off his claim that the Bucs (5-2) are the best team in the conference, saying his players believe it – and he’s not one to tell them different.
“This is not trash-talking. It’s a mentality,” Morris said. “It’s a mentality before it’s a reality. If you don’t believe you can win, you probably won’t. And I believe, and my team believes, in us.”
Sunday’s 38-35 victory over the Arizona Cardinals lifted the Bucs into a first-place tie with the Atlanta Falcons (5-2) in the NFC South, a half game ahead of defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans (5-3).
