FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – These days, the NFL is giving a lot of attention to hits to the helmet.
But what goes on in a pileup when the ball pops loose? Not so much.
Some of the Browns players complained that the New Orleans Saints used dirty tactics during Cleveland’s 30-17 win over the defending Super Bowl champions last Sunday.
Safety Nick Sorensen accused the Saints of gouging his eyes. Returner Josh Cribbs said he was grabbed in the groin area.
Players on the Saints and around the league downplay the dirty play. They say that, yes, there are some unnecessary shots but turnovers can change the game and players will do whatever they can to hold onto the ball.
