BEREA, Ohio (AP) – Once his NFL playing career ends, Browns linebacker David Bowens wants to coach. He’s not ready to swap his helmet for a whistle just yet.
Bowens was picked the AFC’s defensive player of the week on Wednesday, reward for his two interception returns for touchdowns on Sunday in New Orleans. It’s the first time the 12-year veteran has won the award, and it comes in a season that began with doubts he would even make Cleveland’s roster.
Bowens gets teased by his teammates for the gray specks in his hair and beard, but they appreciate his wisdom and knowledge of the game.
He’s the first Cleveland player to have two interception returns for touchdowns in one game since Bobby Franklin in 1960.
