METAIRIE, La. (AP) -Saints starting center Jeff Faine could miss Sunday’s game at San Francisco because of a chest injury.
Faine left last Sunday’s game against Atlanta early in the third quarter after injuring his left pectoral muscle. X-rays this week did not reveal a tear.
Coach Sean Payton said Faine will be a “game-time decision.”
“There’s no surgery; there’s no procedure. It is what it is,” Payton said Thursday. “It will take time to where he feels strong enough in that area.”
If Faine cannot play, Jonathan Goodwin is expected to fill in at center, as he did against the Falcons.
Meanwhile, defensive tackle Brian Young was limited in practice after sitting out on Wednesday because of knee stiffness.
Young, tied for the team lead with two sacks, had fluid drained from his left knee earlier this week. He has said he expects to play and practice Friday, the last practice before the Saints’ scheduled flight to San Francisco that night.
