FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -Rex Ryan benched two of his players for the New York Jets’ next game because of their “selfish” actions in a scuffle with Buffalo’s Derek Fine.
Safety James Ihedigbo and linebacker Marques Murrell were each fined $5,000 by the NFL, and Ryan plans to make both players inactive and not travel for New York’s game at Oakland on Sunday.
Ryan said Thursday he wants his team to be “the most physical” in the NFL, but won’t tolerate what Ihedigbo and Murrell did last Sunday.
Ihedigbo (EE-head-ee-bo) was blocking on the opening kickoff of overtime in the 16-13 loss when Murrell knocked Fine’s helmet off and struck him in an eye. Ihedigbo took a swing at the Bills tight end, was assessed a personal foul penalty and ejected.
