HOUSTON (AP) -Kerry Collins was to start at quarterback for the Titans against the Texans on Sunday, but Vince Young was listed as active and could play.
Young strained his right quadriceps in last week's 13-10 loss at Tampa Bay when he scrambled for a 2-yard gain and was pushed out of bounds by defensive tackle Jovan Haye in the third quarter.
Young practiced for the first time this week on Friday, but only worked with the scout team.
Two hours before Sunday's game, Young was taking snaps in shorts and a T-shirt. He made short drops and simple throws as coach Jeff Fisher and the Titans' training staff watched him carefully.
Collins, in his 13th season, was going to make his first start since Sept. 24, 2006, in Tennessee's 13-10 loss at Miami.
Last week, Collins completed 10 of 20 passes for 125 yards in place of Young, but was mostly ineffective until he engineered an 86-yard drive that resulted in a game-tying touchdown run from LenDale White.
Young's absence was a disappointment to fans on both sides. The Houston native led Texas to the 2005 national championship and Texans fans are still upset that the hometown franchise passed on Young and drafted defensive end Mario Williams two years ago.
Cameras flashed and fans cheered as Young ran onto the field an hour before kickoff. He waved to fans in the corner of the end zone where he ran for the game-winning touchdown in last year's 26-20 victory over Houston.
