FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – New England coach Bill Belichick says he liked the Patriots’ chances in overtime more than the possibilities of a 62-yard field goal attempt.
A day later, Belichick recalled with satisfaction the decision to gamble on overtime as the Patriots rallied to beat Baltimore 23-20 and improve to 4-1 on Sunday.
The Patriots are 9-3 in overtime games under Belichick, who said Monday that too many things could go wrong on such a long field goal attempt at the end of regulation.
The Patriots outlasted the Ravens in overtime and Stephen Gostkowski won it with a 35-yard kick with 1:56 left. New England won its third straight and ended Baltimore’s three-game winning streak.
