NEW YORK (AP) – Comments on the Green Bay Packers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
GREEN BAY PACKERS (1)
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 1): Dom Capers defense only has to be average to win it all. Missed Nick Collins and Cullen Jenkins.
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 1): McCarthy and Capers will fix defense.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 1): Packers chased perfection last season with no defense; used first six draft picks on defensive players to give Aaron Rodgers help.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 1): 15-1 last year and averaged 40 points a game at home. Got better on defense in offseason.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 1): Packers were best team in NFL every week last year except two. They will be best team every week often this year.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 2): Only reason Pack didn’t make it last year was Team No. 1.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 2): Under Mike McCarthy, Packers play smart, precise football.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 2): Will be in conversation all year long. How quick we forget they were 15-1 last year. Defense bounces back in 2012 and Aaron Rodgers at helm … enough said!
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 2): Not much changed personnel-wise this offseason. That’s OK for team that went 15-1 in regular season before playoff collapse that will serve as this season’s motivation.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 3): After nearly perfect season in 2011, things didn’t end way Aaron Rodgers wanted. And he’s still steamed about that playoff loss to Giants. Rematch, anyone?
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 3: Best team during 2011 regular season, and Aaron Rodgers is special quarterback.
Chris Berman (ESPN, 3): After all, Packers had best record last year.
