METAIRIE, La. (AP) – Garrett Hartley doesn’t try to portray his two-week benching as some kind of lesson that might help him in the long run.
Hartley says he’s just glad to be the New Orleans Saints’ primary kicker again and that he’s focused on starting fresh while doing everything he can to ensure he doesn’t get benched again.
The 24-year-old Hartley heads into Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay having missed three of his seven field goal attempts this season. The third miss came in overtime against Atlanta and cost the Saints a victory in Week 3.
New Orleans then signed veteran John Carney, who handled field goals the past two games. Hartley got his job back this week. Holder Chase Daniel says Hartley has been booming the ball down the middle in practice.
