NEW YORK (AP) – The NFL has fined Cincinnati’s Terrell Owens $5,000 for violating the league’s ban on using social media shortly before games.
Owens acknowledged that he broke the rule by sending out a message on Twitter an hour before Cincinnati’s 24-21 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday. Players and coaches can’t use social media 90 minutes before games, during games and shortly afterward.
Detroit wide receiver Nate Burleson was fined $15,000 Friday for kicking a football into the stands and displaying a shirt with a personal message in a 44-6 win over St. Louis on Sunday.
Washington’s Jeremy Jarmon was fined $5,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers, resulting in the Packers quarterback sustaining a concussion.
Houston’s Antonio Smith was fined $12,500 for three violations: a major facemask and two unnecessary roughness calls against the New York Giants.
