ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – A stumble by a Dallas Cowboys lineman has reopened the discussion about whether the NFL goes too far trying to stamp out showboating.
Officials flagged Marc Colombo for unsportsmanlike conduct last Sunday after a touchdown. He broke a rule by going to the ground after flubbing the landing of a chest bump.
However, it was clearly an accident, which gets to the crux of this case: Should officials have just let it go? Or were they correct by following the letter of the law?
The NFL vice president of officiating says it’s a foul. His predecessor said common sense dictates it wasn’t.
