EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -Carson Palmer, out with a sore right elbow, was listed as Cincinnati’s No. 3 quarterback for the game Sunday against the New York Jets.
Ryan Fitzpatrick got his second start of the season for the Bengals, and Palmer’s younger brother, Jordan, was the backup. Fitzpatrick started against Cleveland two weeks ago, the week after Palmer injured his elbow in a loss to the Giants, and threw three interceptions and lost a fumble.
Bengals placekicker Shayne Graham was inactive because of a sore groin and was replaced by Dave Rayner, who was signed by Cincinnati on Saturday.
Also inactive for the Bengals were wide receivers Andre Caldwell and Jerome Simpson, safety Dexter Jackson, linebacker Corey Mays and linebackers John Thornton and Jason Shirley.
Running back Jesse Chatman, back from his four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s steroids and related-substances policy, was active for the Jets. Starting safety Eric Smith was out, serving his one-game ban for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin two weeks ago.
inactive for the Jets for the fourth straight game with a strained right thigh, and was replaced again by Jay Feely. Also inactive for the Jets were quarterback Erik Ainge, wide receiver David Clowney, cornerback Justin Miller, offensive lineman Will Montgomery, linebacker Marques Murrell and defensive lineman Kareem Brown. Brett Ratliff was listed as the team’s No. 3 quarterback.
