ASHBURN, Va. (AP) – The Washington Redskins have the lowest-ranked defense in the NFL. Yet they have a 3-2 record and are tied for first in the NFC East.
Last season, they had a top 10 defense, but they went 4-12.
Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday it just goes to show there are many ways to judge a defense other than the usual measuring stick of yards allowed.
The Redskins are allowing more than 400 yards per game, but they’re getting more takeaways and are holding teams to field goals instead of touchdowns.
Green Bay piled up 427 yards against Washington on Sunday, but the Redskins won 16-13 after LaRon Landry’s interception set up the winning field goal in overtime.
