ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -The Bills’ depth at middle linebacker was depleted after starter Kawika Mitchell and his backup Marcus Buggs were both carted off with leg injuries against Cleveland on Sunday.
Mitchell, who did not return, hurt his right knee when he was bowled over by two Browns linemen while attempting to tackle running back Jerome Harrison on a sweep left. Mitchell lay on the field for several minutes and was unable to put any weight on his right leg as he was lifted onto the cart.
The Bills had shifted Mitchell to the middle this week to take over for Buggs, who struggled the past three games filling in for injured starter Paul Posluszny (broken left arm). The switch was an attempt to bolster a run defense that allowed 472 yards and six touchdowns rushing in its past two games.
Buggs replaced Mitchell, but was carted off after hurting his left leg while covering on a punt return late in the third quarter. That left Jon Corto to take over for Buggs.
d Kenyon Coleman hurt his groin and his return was questionable.
