ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -Buffalo Bills starting left tackle Demetrius Bell returned to practice and is expected to play against Cleveland this weekend.
Bell said after practice Wednesday he felt ready to play after a groin injury forced him to miss a 38-10 loss at Miami on Sunday. Reserve defensive tackle John McCargo (groin) also practiced after missing last weekend’s game.
Starting safeties Donte Whitner (right thumb) and Bryan Scott (left ankle) did not practice and are likely to miss their second straight games. Reserve defensive end Chris Ellis’ status is uncertain. He remains excused after his mother died last weekend.
In a bid to bolster their run defense, the Bills shifted veteran starter Kawika Mitchell from outside to middle linebacker.
