NEW ORLEANS (AP) -The New Orleans Saints scratched rookie cornerback Malcolm Jenkins before Sunday’s home game against the New York Jets because of his sore left ankle.
Jenkins, the Saints’ top draft pick last spring, was not a starter, but has played in five- and six-defensive back sets. He also has stood out on special teams, forcing fumbles on kick coverage in each of the previous two games.
Jenkins hurt his left ankle during the Saints’ 27-7 win at Buffalo a week ago and did not practice all week. He was among several cornerbacks sidelined for this matchup of undefeated teams. On Friday, the Jets announced that Lito Sheppard (right quadriceps) and Donald Strickland (right ankle) also would be out.
