IRVING, Texas (AP) – Miles Austin passed him on the depth chart, Dez Bryant was drafted to take his place and Michael Irvin trashed him.
So Roy Williams has plenty of motivation behind the way he’s playing.
Williams has shaken off his label as a bust and become someone Tony Romo can trust. He caught what would’ve been the game-winning touchdown on the final play of the opener, held onto the ball during two crushing hits the next week, then had touchdown catches of 15 and 63 yards this past weekend to lead the Dallas Cowboys to their first victory of the season.
Coach Wade Phillips rewarded Williams on Thursday by giving him a game ball and praising him for persevering through all the criticism he’s heard.
