JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Jacksonville has claimed former Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards off waivers, giving the Jaguars someone to compete with struggling starter David Garrard.
The Jaguars claimed Edwards on Tuesday, a day after the Bills released him and two days after Garrard struggled for the second consecutive week.
Edwards started the first two games for Buffalo, completing 29 of 52 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also threw two interceptions and lost both games, prompting coach Chan Gailey to turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Garrard has been equally bad in consecutive lopsided losses to San Diego and Philadelphia. Garrard threw four interceptions and was benched against the Chargers, then completed 13 of 30 passes for 105 yards and an interception against the Eagles.
