HOUSTON (AP) -Missed tackles, surrendering big plays and the inability to stuff the other team on third down.
The problems are many for a Houston defense that is among the league’s worst three weeks into the season.
Coach Gary Kubiak pointed to Maurice Jones-Drew’s 61-yard touchdown run as a glaring example. The Jaguars ran the exact play on their first series, and with Houston in the same defense the Texans stopped Jones-Drew after a 4-yard gain.
When they ran it again, Kubiak says the defense “decided to do something different” and Jones-Drew ran virtually untouched for the score. Kubiak says his staff is “stumped” about why that happened and working to figure it out.
