CHICAGO (AP) -The Philadelphia Eagles held Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook out of Sunday’s game against Chicago with strained right ankle.
The Bears, meanwhile, were without Pro Bowl defensive tackle Tommie Harris (sore left knee), but star kick returner Devin Hester was active after sitting out last week with a rib injury.
burgh. He walked to the locker room without help, but didn’t return and left the stadium on crutches.
With Westbrook out, Correll Buckhalter figures to get more carries. He entered the game with 12 carries for 48 yards.
Also inactive for Philadelphia were two-time Pro Bowl guard Shawn Andrews (back), tight end L.J. Smith (back) and wide receiver Kevin Curtis (sports hernia).
While Hester was available, the Bears decided to hold out Harris even though he insisted Friday he would be ready before sarcastically referring to himself in the third person.
“He has to show up, no question,” Harris said. “They gave him all that money, you know. I guess since he plays for the money he better do something now because they paid him all that money.”
Signed to a $40 million contract extension before training camp, Harris had offseason knee surgery and has been bothered by soreness since early in the preseason. He aggravated the condition during a 27-24 overtime loss to Tampa Bay last week and sat out practice all week.
Even so, Harris insisted Friday he would be ready before sarcastically referring to himself in the third person.
