NFL stories for the weekend of Sept. 28-29:
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FBN--DOLPHINS-TANNEHILL'S RISE
MIAMI - With a flair for the dramatic, second-year pro Ryan Tannehill has taken command at quarterback, solving the Miami Dolphins' perennial problem at the position and leading them to a surprising 3-0 start.

GAME OF THE WEEK
FBN--SEAHAWKS-TEXANS
HOUSTON - The undefeated Seattle Seahawks are already feeling this could be a special season and are looking to improve to 4-0 for the first time. They have the league's best defense and will face a Houston team that is second to them in yards allowed in the NFL. Both teams feel great about their defenses, but know that they'll have to improve on offense to contend for a championship.

FBN--ON FOOTBALL-AFC VS. NFC
NEW YORK - The AFC has been dominant through three weeks of the season, winning 11 of 14 meetings with the NFC. Most confounding has been the early flops by five of the six NFC playoff teams from 2012; only Seattle among last season's half-dozen has a winning record. Meanwhile, all six AFC playoff qualifiers from last year are winners.

FBN--NFL THIS WEEK
First place in the NFC North is at stake Sunday, and the Green Bay Packers will be nowhere in the vicinity.
Instead, it's the Bears, one of seven 3-0 teams, against the Lions at Ford Field. A victory for Chicago would give it a stranglehold on the division through one-fourth of the schedule.

FBN-PACKERS BYE
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly looks just fine back on the field, especially for someone who had been away from the league for three years. He's back after having been suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. The stamina isn't all there yet. Getting into NFL shape remains a work in progress. But so far, Jolly seems to be making a difference while shaking off the rust.

FBN--PANTHERS BYE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Panthers got a reminder Sunday that the more Cam Newton runs, the more effective their offense can be. Newton, who hadn't run much in the team's first two games, ran four times for 40 yards on Carolina's second possession, leading to a touchdown, and helped the Panthers get their first win, a 38-0 rout of the New York Giants. The Panthers may be looking to limit Newton's runs for the sake of career longevity, but teammates want to see him run because it helps open up the offense.
