BEREA, Ohio (AP) – Browns punter Spencer Lanning may not attempt another pass in his NFL career. He made the most of his first one.
Cleveland’s holder on field-goal attempts, Lanning lofted an 11-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jordan Cameron in Sunday’s 31-27 win over Minnesota. The Vikings fell for the trick play when they left Cameron uncovered near the sideline. Cameron said it felt like Lanning’s pass was in the air “for like 30 seconds.”
Lanning said the only training he’s had at quarterback is “throwing a ball with my dad out in the yard.”
He received some good-natured ribbing from friends “texting me saying I threw it like a girl. No offense to all the women out there.”
Lanning is the first player since 1968 to punt, kick an extra point and throw a TD pass in the same game.
