ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -The Buffalo Bills’ already banged-up offense has a few more limping players, including starting center Geoff Hangartner, who missed practice Wednesday because of a back injury.
Without going into detail, coach Dick Jauron said Hangartner was held out because of a stiff back.
That’s potentially bad news for a team that has already shuffled its lineup this week after losing starting right tackle Brad Butler and starting tight end Derek Schouman to season-ending knee injuries.
With 29 starts in 56 games over five seasons, Hangartner is the team’s most experienced offensive lineman. Jonathan Scott, who’s had six starts over four NFL seasons, will take over for Butler as Buffalo (1-1) prepares to host New Orleans (2-0) on Sunday.
The Bills line is already young, featuring two rookie guards, Eric Wood and Andy Levitre, and second-year left tackle Demetrius Bell, who did not appear in a game as a rookie last season.
e injury. Tight end Shawn Nelson (strained shoulder) and starting cornerback Leodis McKelvin (fibula) were limited in practice after both were hurt in a 33-20 win over Tampa Bay last weekend.
Cornerback Terrence McGee also was limited because of an ankle injury.
The Bills signed offensive lineman Andre Ramsey to their practice squad. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 322 pounds, Ramsey is an undrafted free agent rookie out of Ball State, who signed with Seattle before being released by the Seahawks prior to the start of the season.
The move came a day after Buffalo signed rookie tackle Jamon Meredith off Green Bay’s practice squad, and promoted tight end Jonathan Stupar off its practice squad.
The Bills signed Meredith, a fifth-round draft pick out of South Carolina, even though they had worked out several veteran free agents – including Jon Runyan – over the past month.
Jauron said the team’s scouts were impressed with how Meredith performed at the NFL combine in February.
