OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Daunte Culpepper took over for Josh McCown and started the second half at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday against Cleveland.
Culpepper, who played one play in the first quarter after McCown was nicked up, was greeted with cheers by the fans who had wanted him to be the team's starter all along. McCown played the rest of the first half, but stayed in the locker room after the break to have his injured left foot observed.
Culpepper signed with Oakland on July 31, but could not beat out McCown for the starting spot. Coach Lane Kiffin said he went with McCown because Culpepper did not know the offense as well.
McCown lost his first two starts and the fans booed him after the first play of this game, when he was sacked. They cheered when he briefly left late in the first quarter.
