EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – The New England Patriots have signed former Jets running back-wide receiver Danny Woodhead, adding the versatile player before they play New York.
Woodhead is not active for the game Sunday at the New Meadowlands Stadium.
Woodhead, one of Jets coach Rex Ryan’s personal favorites, was cut earlier in the week when New York re-signed wide receiver David Clowney. He played in the season opener against Baltimore on Monday night and had a special teams tackle.
The 5-foot-9 former NCAA career rushing leader from Chadron State had eight catches for 87 yards and ran for 64 yards in 10 games last season for the Jets. Woodhead spent the 2008 season on injured reserve after injuring his left knee during training camp.
