FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – Two people with knowledge of the deal tell The Associated Press that the New York Jets have re-signed wide receiver David Clowney.
Clowney, who was cut on Sept. 5, was back with the team Tuesday, according to the people who spoke on condition of anonymity because the Jets had not announced the deal.
The roster spot was vacated when the Jets waived running back-wide receiver Danny Woodhead earlier in the day following a season-opening 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.
The Jets had only three true wide receivers on their roster – Jerricho Cotchery, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith – and will face the high-scoring New England Patriots on Sunday.
Clowney has 15 career catches in two seasons with New York.
