ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -Depleted at safety because of injuries, the Washington Redskins signed veteran Omar Stoutmire on Wednesday.
Stoutmire was in training camp with the Redskins but was cut Sept. 1. He played 10 games with Washington in 2005 and spent 2006 with New Orleans. He also has played with Dallas, the New York Jets and New York Giants in his 11-year career.
The Redskins needed an extra body because two backup safeties were hurt in Sunday’s 16-13 overtime win over Miami. Pierson Prioleau injured a hamstring, and Vernon Fox suffered a groin injury.
The Redskins had a roster spot available for Stoutmire after their moves Tuesday, when running back Marcus Mason was cut, receiver Reche Caldwell was signed, and right tackle Jon Jansen was placed on injured reserve.
