INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -Indianapolis Colts starting weakside linebacker Freddy Keiaho hopes to play in Sunday’s game at Tennessee after dislocating his right elbow.
Keiaho injured the elbow in the first quarter of last Thursday’s 41-10 season-opening win over the New Orleans Saints. Keiaho, who played most of the game with the injury, had his elbow in a brace and sat out the team’s brief practice Monday afternoon.
Keiaho had hopes of getting clearance to play in Sunday’s AFC South road matchup with the Titans. His availability likely won’t be determined until Friday or Saturday.
“It’s really a pain issue,” said coach Tony Dungy. “He’s going to get it braced up and we’ll see how he does.”
The second-year linebacker, in his first season in the Colts’ starting lineup, had seven tackles and his first career interception against New Orleans. His interception of Drew Brees’ pass came near the end of the third quarter after he was injured.
Keiaho was hurt on the sixth play from scrimmage during an end-around by running back Reggie Bush on the Saints’ initial offensive possession.
“We were in man coverage, so we had an eight-man front. I ran through my gap and they ran a reverse. So I tried to spin out, but I just got pushed from behind,” he said. “It’s a stupid play to get hurt on, I just landed on the elbow kind of funny.”
