FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Tom Brady says he’s not thinking about a new contract and is focusing on preparing for the season opener.
The current deal for the New England Patriots quarterback expires after this season. He said Wednesday he loves playing for the team but has learned not to assume anything and just wants to focus on playing football.
Brady suffered a season-ending knee injury in the 2008 opener. A contract agreement before Sunday’s first game against the Cincinnati Bengals would provide security even if he’s hurt again.
He said that getting a new deal by Sunday isn’t part of his thoughts and he doesn’t know if he’ll have one by the end of the season. He said he has a responsibility to the team to focus on Sunday’s game.
