ST. LOUIS (AP) -The St. Louis Rams placed defensive tackle Adam Carriker and defensive end Eric Moore on injured reserve Saturday and cut running back Antonio Pittman along with 18 other players to get to the mandatory 53-man roster limit.
Carriker and Moore were injured in the preseason finale Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Carriker hurt a shoulder and Moore a hand.
The Rams waived Pittman, the backup behind Steven Jackson last season, and running back Chris Ogbonnaya, a seventh-round draft pick this year, and guard Roy Schuening, a fifth-rounder last year.
Keith Null, a sixth-rounder, won the third-string quarterback job over Brock Berlin, who was waived.
St. Louis also waived linebackers K.C. Asiodu and Dominic Douglas, defensive tackle Antwon Burton, tight end Eric Butler, defensive end Ian Campbell, offensive tackles Renardo Foster and Phil Trautwein, fullback Jerome Johnson, center Tim Mattran, cornerback Cord Parks, safety Mark Rubin and wide receiver Sean Walker.
terminated the contracts of safety Todd Johnson and wide receivers Tim Carter and Ronald Curry.
Carriker, a first-round draft pick in 2007, made nine starts and played in 15 games last season while bothered by injuries to both shoulders. Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Friday that Carriker had sustained a “significant” injury in the third quarter.
He was making his preseason debut against the Chiefs after recovering from an ankle injury.
