PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Steelers have cut their roster to the 53-man limit, and coach Mike Tomlin held a meeting with those who made the team.
But he’s not saying who was at Friday’s gathering.
Not wanting to tip off other NFL teams, Tomlin said the Steelers won’t announce final cuts until Saturday, when all teams must firm up their rosters.
One reason for the secrecy is the Steelers may be trying to slide running back Isaac Redman from the active roster to the practice squad. Redman, an undrafted rookie from Bowie State, was the surprise star of training camp and scored three of the Steelers’ five rushing touchdowns during the preseason.
The Steelers made their cuts a day earlier than most teams because they open the season Thursday against Tennessee.
