METAIRIE, La. (AP) – As the New Orleans Saints enter the final week of preseason, coach Sean Payton says he has not yet decided what to do about All-Pro safety Darren Sharper and veteran linebacker Clint Ingram.
Both players are recovering from left knee operations and haven’t practiced this preseason.
Payton says there remain three possibilities as Saturday’s deadline for final cuts looms.
He says they could remain on the physically-unable-to-perform list, moved to the active roster or released.
If they open the season on the PUP list, they cannot play for the first six weeks of the season.
Payton says he’s been encouraged by recent progress in their rehabilitation, but still doesn’t know when they’ll be ready.
