CLEVELAND (AP) -Brady Quinn will start for the Cleveland Browns against Tennessee, an opportunity that could decide his close competition with Derek Anderson to be Cleveland’s No. 1 quarterback.
Coach Eric Mangini is expected to play both Quinn and Anderson into the second half Saturday. Earlier this week, Cleveland’s first-year coach said the derby between the two quarterbacks was still “very close.” The third preseason game is considered a dress rehearsal for the regular season, so Quinn and Anderson, who have similar statistics, could take the lead with a strong outing.
Anderson started last week at home against Detroit and led the Browns to their first offensive touchdown in seven games. Quinn started a week earlier at Green Bay.
Mangini has not given a timetable for when he will announce his starter for the Sept. 13 opener against Minnesota.
