PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers guard Ramon Foster is finally ready for his turn in the spotlight.
After spending four seasons as a versatile backup, Foster begins 2013 as the starter for the first time in his career. Pittsburgh awarded Foster a three-year, $6 million contract in the offseason that provides the offensive line with a veteran presence. The 27-year-old Foster is at least two years older than linemates Marcus Gilbert, David DeCastro, Mike Adams and Maurkice Pouncey.
Foster credits his work ethic and his ability to stay healthy as a major reason he's evolved from undrafted free agent into starter. The 340-pound Foster is big for a guard, but he's also an athletic presence who can get down the line quickly to block.
The Steelers finish up the preseason on Thursday at Carolina.
