NAPA, Calif. (AP) -Oakland Raiders wide receiver Chaz Schilens is seeing a knee specialist and may need arthroscopic surgery.
Coach Tom Cable made the announcement Monday about Schilens’ latest injury. Cable says it likely is a result of Schilens overcompensating for his injured left foot. Schilens missed the first eight games last season with a broken foot and was never completely healthy after his return.
He had 29 catches for 365 yards and two touchdowns, but needed another operation after the season to help the foot fully heal.
He is being counted on as a big part of Oakland’s passing game this year but has yet to play in the preseason.
Cable says he hopes Schilens would be back by the opener Sept. 12 at Tennessee if he needs the surgery.
