FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -Falcons coach Mike Smith says the team is not seeking help at receiver after losing rookie Kerry Meier for the season.
Meier, a fifth-round pick from Kansas, injured his right knee in Thursday night’s 28-10 preseason loss to the New England Patriots. No details of the injury were immediately available. He was placed on injured reserve.
Smith said Saturday that Meier was on his way to earning a spot on the team as a backup receiver and special teams player.
Starting receiver Michael Jenkins could return from a shoulder injury for the start of the regular season. Brian Finneran could join Roddy White as the starters if Jenkins is not ready. Harry Douglas has returned from a knee injury, so Smith says the team has ample depth at the position.
