ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -Brandon Pettigrew hopes to be a key part of the NFL’s most improved offense this season. First, he has to get healthy.
The tight end is recovering from a knee injury that prematurely ended his rookie season with the Detroit Lions. He says he thinks he’ll be ready for Detroit’s regular-season opener Sept. 12 in Chicago.
Pettigrew practices once a day even when his teammates have double sessions, and is held out entirely on other days. He didn’t play in Saturday’s preseason opener in Pittsburgh.
Coach Jim Schwartz says Pettigrew will probably make no more than a token appearance in Saturday’s exhibition game in Denver.
