SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart has passed his physical and is cleared to practice for the first time since offseason heel surgery.
Stewart participated in individual drills, but was held out of team work Saturday morning. It’s the first time Stewart has practiced since late last season because of chronic pain in his left Achilles’ tendon and heel.
Stewart has rarely practiced over the past two plus years, but has played in all 33 regular-season and playoff games. He led the Panthers in rushing last season and joined DeAngelo Williams as the first teammates in NFL history to each rush for over 1,100 yards.
Defensive end Tyler Brayton sat out Saturday after spraining his left ankle in Thursday’s preseason loss at Baltimore.
