WASHINGTON (AP) -A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that the Washington Redskins have reached a deal with veteran long-snapper James Dearth.
The person told the AP on Saturday on condition of anonymity because the team planned to announce the signing on Sunday.
Nick Sundberg has been the only long snapper at training camp for the Redskins, but he has never snapped in a regular season game and has been inconsistent during practices.
The Redskins did not re-sign longtime snapper Ethan Albright because they wanted a younger player at the position. Albright is 39, but he never had a bad snap in nine seasons in Washington.
Dearth is 34 and spent his last nine seasons with the New York Jets.
