ATLANTA (AP) – Testimony has begun in the trial of Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who faces misdemeanor battery charges.
The charges stem from a March 2008 argument with then-girlfriend Rasheedah Watley at Marshall’s downtown Atlanta condominium.
A jury was selected Thursday morning, and the officer who responded to the call testified. Watley’s two sisters also testified.
Marshall was present at Fulton County State Court as the trial got under way, but his attorneys say he will not testify. Lawyers expect the trial to last two days.
Marshall was suspended for last year’s season opener after a series of domestic disputes. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said a conviction in this case could lead to a second suspension.
