ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas says he tries his best to forget about his childhood, including seeing his drug-dealing parents for the last time about a dozen years ago.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz says Thursday that Delmas has been going through “a real trying time,” watching team drills because of his sore left knee.
Delmas’ on-the-field experience, though, is nothing like being handcuffed, as he says he was in Sarasota, Fla., and taken to a police station where he saw his parents for the last time before they were deported to Haiti.
The rookie says he’s thankful for the role models who helped him make good choices in North Miami Beach and Western Michigan, allowing his talents to shine and make him a second-round pick in the NFL draft.
