TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) -Colts owner Jim Irsay is hoping safety Bob Sanders will be back in the lineup for the season opener.
Sanders has not practiced at training camp after having offseason surgery to clean up his right knee.
Irsay made an impromptu visit on Tuesday to the team’s temporary headquarters and said Sanders, the 2007 NFL defensive player of the year, needed to get ready before he participated in practice.
Then Irsay told reporters there was a “good chance” Sanders would be ready for the regular season.
Sanders missed 10 games last season after having knee surgery. He has played in 43 of 80 regular-season games since the Colts drafted him, but Sanders has missed only three games in odd-numbered years.
