SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has attended his first training-camp practice since receiving a heart transplant.
He immediately addressed the biggest offseason issue to his players: Julius Peppers.
Looking much thinner but saying he feels well, Richardson gathered the team for a pep talk before Monday morning’s workout. He then asked Peppers to join him in the middle of the circle.
The Pro Bowl defensive end skipped all offseason workouts after saying he wanted to play elsewhere. He eventually relented and signed a one-year, $16.7 million deal.
Richardson didn’t address the issue with reporters, but players said he mentioned his offseason meeting with Peppers. Linebacker Jon Beason said it showed that “everything is cool.”
