CHELTENHAM, Pa. (AP) -A Philadelphia man accused of shooting San Diego Chargers rookie Curtis Brinkley has turned himself in to authorities.
Investigators in Montgomery County say 23-year-old Anthony Peterson turned himself in on Saturday. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says the July 10 shooting was a case of mistaken identity. Ferman says Peterson was romantically involved with Brinkley’s sister and thought he was shooting at a rival. Brinkley was treated for gunshot wounds at a hospital and released.
A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 19.
Brinkley signed with the Chargers as a rookie free agent. He rushed for 1,164 yards last year at Syracuse.
