JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -The Jacksonville Jaguars waived punter Eric Wilbur on Wednesday after one practice.
Wilbur tried out with the team Tuesday, signed a contract shortly thereafter and then practiced in the night session. He must not have been very impressive, though, because the Jags waived him about 12 hours later.
Wilbur, who averaged 42.3 yards a punt for national champion Florida last season, replaced Tony Yelk after he shanked a punt during a scrimmage last week.
Now, the Jags are looking for another punter.
``We want to be able to take some kickoffs off of (Josh) Scobee's leg and some punts off the punter's leg, and you always want to have a guy just in case that knows how to do what you do,'' coach Jack Del Rio said.
Whoever the Jaguars sign, he will be a long shot to make the final roster because the team used a fourth-round pick to draft Adam Podlesh in April.
