SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -Carolina Panthers right tackle Jeff Otah has had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and coach John Fox is hopeful he’ll be recovered in time for the regular-season opener.
Fox says Otah returned to Charlotte to have the surgery on Wednesday after experiencing discomfort which has kept him out of all training camp practices. It’s the same knee Otah had surgery on in December to repair torn cartilage.
A first-round pick in 2008, Otah immediately became a starter and has helped open holes for one of the league’s top rushing tandems in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.
Geoff Schwartz has been working at right tackle in Otah’s absence.
Otah was one of 16 injured players to miss Carolina’s second practice Wednesday.
