ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -Lions president Tom Lewand is confirming the team has agreed to terms with top pick Ndamukong Suh.
Lewand made the announcement Wednesday morning, saying Suh was expected to arrive in Detroit in time to participate in the afternoon practice.
A person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Tuesday night that Suh and the Lions had agreed to terms on a five-year contract worth $40 million guaranteed and as much as $68 million. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the talks were confidential.
Detroit drafted the former Nebraska defensive tackle with the No. 2 pick overall in the NFL draft, hoping he would bolster a defense that ranked among the league’s all-time worst in points allowed the past two seasons.
