OXNARD, Calif. (AP) -Terrell Owens took it easy at Dallas Cowboys training camp Sunday, getting a day off from practice along with tight end Jason Witten and linebacker Zach Thomas.
All three players were on the field, but were in shorts and only spectators for the lone workout of the day. It was the Cowboys' 10th consecutive day of practices since opening camp.
Since the team isn't scheduled to be off until next Sunday, the day after their preseason opener, coach Wade Phillips had indicated that he might start periodically giving some veteran players time off.
``Don't tell Terrell, but we will do that with him some day and other guys,'' Phillips had said Saturday, without indicating when that would do that.
Pro Bowl left tackle Flozell Adams and guard Marc Colombo got a break from the team's morning workout Saturday, but were back on the field for the afternoon session.
``It's a preventive kind of thing,'' Phillips said Saturday, explaining why Adams and Colombo got a break. ``They are not hurt, but I think if you overwork them or put them in situations, you could have a bad result.''
In his first camp with the Cowboys last year, Phillips also gave veterans breaks from practice. That included Owens.
During the second practice Saturday, Owens was held out of some late drills, partly to give some other receivers snaps while also getting the 34-year-old Pro Bowler some rest.
Owens came out for the Sunday workout wearing white shorts and a T-shirt. Witten and Thomas were wearing their jerseys when they walked out onto the field after practice began.
There were two newcomers on the sideline Sunday. Philllips' wife, Laurie, and their daughter Tracy, an actress and dancer who lives in Southern California, attended practice.
