MANKATO, Minn. (AP) -When E.J. Henderson’s left femur essentially snapped in half during a game in Arizona in December, some of his Vikings teammates wondered if he would ever play again.
Just eight months later, Henderson is back out on the field. The defensive captain has been participating in the first two days of training camp and expects to be ready for Minnesota’s season opener against New Orleans on Sept. 6.
The gruesome injury brought some teammates to tears as he was carted off the field. Doctors inserted a titanium rod in his leg during surgery and Henderson says he is feeling no pain as he works his way back into playing shape.
He is not taking part in the most physical portions of practice just yet, but Henderson says he is on schedule to be ready for the Saints.
